NEW PRESENTERS.         NEW CREATIONS.      TIME TO REGISTER.

TODD IS GOD. In addition to his own albums (nearly two dozen), Todd has produced albums for Halfnelson, Meat Loaf, Patti Smith, Tom Robinson Band, Cheap Trick, The Band and many others.  He was the creator of some of the first music videos aired by MTV.  A computer graphics pioneer, he wrote one of the first paint programs (it ran on the Apple ][), and one of the first screen savers.  He wrote the music for Pee-Wee’s Playhouse and Crime Story, and film scores for Under Cover and Dumb and Dumber, among others.

NEW ALBUM:  ARENA launched in September and kicked off a new tour.  Recorded at home in Hawai’i.  Get it on Amazon or iTunes.

eg in Monterey isn't easily pigeonholed.  It’s not a business summit.  It’s not a hacker-fest.  It is not an artist colony. It isn’t a venture capital schmooze or a CEO club or a scintillating academic meeting.  Although it embodies aspects of all of these.

eg simply brings together the best of the best: Presenters and attendees are the brightest creative forces in our society.
The name eg recalls ideal models & great explanations — exempli gratia — as well as: the entertainment gathering.

eg represents not only the plural worlds of entertainment, but is infused with science & technology, education & philanthropy, art & design, research & entrepreneurship.   The conference celebrates our uniquely American entertainment industries because in their kaleidoscopic patterns of innovation, they are a breeder reactor for talents, technologies and ideas that inspire the boldest trends in our culture.  There is not a segment of society or professional pursuit that is not profoundly affected.  This is the creativity business, and eg is an engine for surfacing new ideas that move us forward.

Founded by Richard Saul Wurman (creator of TED among other things), eg is a throwback to the best of conferences that have flourished in Monterey for nearly 25 years.  It is intimate — 500 people and no overflow room — and we come because nothing is more valuable (or entertaining) than latching onto a new idea.  eg'ers are founders, CEO's, entrepreneurs, academics.  They are rising stars and living national treasures; media pioneers and media barons.  They are MacArthurs, Oscars, Pulitzers, Nobels, Kennedy Center honorees, and more.  Past presenters often return for an "emeritus" year, which adds to a vibrant community.  At eg, we are peers, and we come to share our best notions, and take away hundreds more.  eg redefines what it can mean to entertain ideas, in all senses and through endless variations and media.  This is the conference for the most interesting and inspired people in the world.

I realize that global media seem to swamp us with a downward spiral of news of a sad and crumbling world.  That is why eg is more important than ever.  The world has always been a tough, turbulent place.  You don’t have to be the Buddha to know that life is struggle.  In the face of challenges, nothing is more uplifting than the collective energy of the audience and presenters at eg.  For some it is like a candle in the dark.  Or a dynamo that charges you with inspiration and energy to tackle greater challenges ahead.  For those who attend, it’s often the high point of the year.  Above all, it is a chance to find that most priceless of all possessions: a new idea.
